FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES
To support its numerous community philanthropic activities and programs in support of children and sight conservation,
the Reno Host Lions Club undertakes a number of fund raising activities. Some of these activities are once a year events
and some are ongoing projects throughout the year.
NEWSPRINT RECYCLING,
Through strategically-located golden collection bins at area markets, schools and churches,
Reno Host Lions have collected more than 1,000 tons of newsprint every year since commencement of the project. Newsprint,
including newspapers, magazines, catalogs, etc. is recycled into new paper, cardboard, and insulating material. Collections
are made through the assistance of Waste management/Reno Disposal. In addition to the fund raising offered by the project,
there is another benefit -- the newsprint we recycle annually saves 147 trees from being cut for newsprint production.
The program is made possible only through the generosity and community spirit of the businesses that provide space for our
collection bins. See the attached listing of collection bin locations.
RENO RODEO BUCKAROO BREAKFAST,
The Buckaroo Breakfast is held annually in June, the morning of the Reno Rodeo Parade in downtown Reno. This traditional
buckaroo breakfast includes scrambled eggs, sausage, flapjacks, juice, milk, and coffee. It is a great starter for the
Rodeo Parade and Rodeo events that follow. The breakfast is open to the public and parade participants at a very reasonable
cost, and much of the food and supplies for the breakfast are contributed to the Club.
HOLIDAY GIFT BASKETS
For many years Reno Host Lions assembled and delivered reasonably priced Holiday Fruit Baskets in mid December. The baskets, centered by a
bottle of fine wine or bubbling apple cider, contained an array of fruits, candies, and nuts appropriate for Christmas Holiday gifts
and employee recognition. This program has been expanded in 2008 to include gift baskets for the Thanksgiving Holiday as well. The
offering now includes a coffee and tea gift basket as well as the traditionl fruit baskets.
LIONS MINTS
Sold through display stands at area restaurants, shops and business offices, Lions mints are a pleasant treat. The proceeds
from the sale of mints go to support the many charitable programs funded by the Reno host lions Club. To participate in the
program, contact us at 825-8811.
FLEA MARKET (GARAGE SALE)
During August, Reno Host Lions recycle local treasures and "white elephants" through a flea market sale which raises funds for
Lions programs and charities.
OTHER FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES
In recent years the Reno Host Lions Club has conducted "Raffles" and sponsored "Mystery Trips" as fund raisers.
