Leo Clubs are the youth organization of Lions Clubs International
and are open to individuals 18 to 30 years of age. Leo Clubs are
non-political and non-religious, according to the Lions principles. The
purpose of the Leo Club is to promote service activities among young people,
give Leos the opportunity to educate themselves, and to accumulate experience
in leadership and service activities. Being a Leo is also about making new
friends in the neighbourhood, within the country, and on the international level.
The first Leo Club was organized in Glenside, Pennsylvania in 1957, by Lions members James Graver and William Ernst.
They created the Leo Club as a way of introducing community service to young people. When Lions Clubs around the world
learned of this group of young volunteers, they duplicated the concept, and soon, Leo Clubs were formed all over the
world. In fiscal year 1967-68, the Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International officially adopted the Leo Club program.
As of 2003, there are 5,600 Leo clubs locatedworldwide As of July, 2003 there are 140,000 Leos in 137 nations,
125 Leo districts, and 22 multiple districts. The Reno Host Leo Club provides members with a sense of satisfaction
through performing community services, while offering the chance to meet new friends and to network. Service to the
community is our main goal.
